Improving Tile Adhesive Open Time
A customer needed better open time and smoother troweling performance in a cement-based tile adhesive. The existing cellulose ether grade provided insufficient water retention, leading to a short working window and inconsistent application behavior.
LANDERCOLL recommended testing selected HPMC and HEMC/MHEC grades with suitable water retention and rheology characteristics for the customer’s cement-based system.
During testing, the customer observed improved workable consistency, better open time support, and smoother application feel with the recommended grade direction.
Open time performance depends on cellulose ether viscosity grade, dosage level, cement type, filler system, water-to-powder ratio, and ambient temperature. Final performance must be confirmed through application testing.
