What is Textured Paint?

Textured paint is designed to mimic various look and feel of natural materials such as stone, sand, and leather. While enhancing the visual appeal of walls and ceilings, it can be used to refine imperfections on the walls.

As such paint contains particles to form a textured appearance, an emulsifier like Hydroxyethyl Cellulose(HEC) is essential to ensure consistent and durable paint. As an eminent manufacturer of cellulose ether, LANDERCOLL suggests using our HEC as a top-quality textured paint additive. It serves as a thickener, stabilizer, film-forming, and water-retaining agent to improve your paint texture.

Powerful Textured Paint Additive - LANDERCOLL HEC

Hydroxyethyl Cellulose(HEC) Features and Benefits

Biologinen stabiilisuus

HEC helps evenly distribute preservatives throughout the paint and indirectly prevents microbial growth, which can lead to spoilage and performance issues.

Enzyme Resistance

HEC is not easily broken down by enzymes. This property is essential to help textured paint remain effective for a longer period, extending its shelf life.

Moisture Preservation

By forming a protective layer, HEC can hold moisture within the paint, making it easier to apply and allowing for longer opening time to make adjustments.

Suspending and Emulsifying

One of the most important functions of HEC is to prevent the clumping or settling of larger particles in textured paints, creating a uniform distribution.

About Textured Paint

USEIN KYSYTYT KYSYMYKSET

Can I Use Textured Paint In Bathrooms?

Yes, textured paint is resistant to humidity, especially by incorporating Hydroxyethyl Cellulose(HEC). Such an additive can create a tightly overlapping, waterproof layer to prevent water infiltration. Also, textured paint can hide cracks, dents, or uneven surfaces on bathroom walls or ceilings. These properties make textured paint ideal in bathrooms.

How Do I Apply Textured Paint to Walls?

Choose the special tools according to the texture you want to achieve, including roll-on, trowel, brush, or sponge. Start from the top to the bottom and work your way down to avoid drips. Allow the paint to dry completely before applying a second coat, and use proper lighting to make sure the texture is even and attractive.

Can I Paint Over Texture Without Primer?

LANDERCOLL does not recommend that. A well-prepared and clean wall is essential before applying textured paint. Untreated surfaces may have nooks, crannies, and dents, making paint difficult to adhere. Applying a high-quality primer could help you create a smooth surface for the paint to go on.

How Long Does Textured Paint Last?

The life of textured paint depends on its quality and type, as well as where it is used. Textured paint on interior walls can last longer, for 10 – 15 years, due to the mild environment compared to exterior walls. However, shoddy products could lead to shorter operational life. That’s why LANDERCOLL recommends our HEC as your reliable textured paint additive. Furthermore, heavy textures like popcorn tend to last longer than light textures, such as orange peel, especially in high-traffic areas.

How Should I Remove Textured Paint?

The simplest way is to cover the texture in a joint compound, also known as wall putty. Or you can use a drywall taping knife to scrape the wall after spraying it with water and resting it for about 15 minutes. If there are still textures left, you could continue scraping them off and sanding them down after the wall is completely dry.
