What is Tile Grout?

Tile grout is a building material used to fill the joints between tiles (or natural stones) on walls or floors. It provides an aesthetically pleasing surface and resists erosion from external factors. This powdery mixture needs to be mixed with water or liquid additives before use.

LANDERCOLL is a prominent manufacturer of cellulose ether based in China. To optimize your tile grout powder, we recommend our additives including Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose(HPMC) y Hidroxietilmetilcelulosa (HEMC), which provide excellent edge adhesion, low shrinkage, and high wear resistance, protecting the substrate from mechanical damage and preventing the negative effects of water infiltration on the entire structure.

Top 3 Functions of Cellulose Ether in Tile Grout Powder

Water Retaining Ability

LANDERCOLL HPMC helps ensure a sufficient hydration process for cement material, preventing tile grout from drying too fast and cracking. Holding enough water also enhances workability for tile grout, as well as extended opening time for installers.

Enhanced Adhesion

HPMC and HEMC act as a thickening agent, achieving the optimal viscosity of the grout. Such properties lead to a more durable and long-lasting bond between tiles and also help to prevent slipping on vertical surfaces.

Thermal and Moisture Stability

Cellulose ethers, especially HEMC, are stable under higher temperatures, making tile grout resistant to various environmental conditions. Furthermore, HPMC and HEMC can form a protective film against water infiltration, significantly enhancing the durability of tile grout.

About Tile Grout Powder

PREGUNTAS MÁS FRECUENTES

Which Type of Tile Grout Should I Use?

You could reference the type of cementitious grouts on this page. For example, CG1 tile grout is suitable for residential and light commercial applications, such as indoor wall installations. CG2WA tile grout offers high performance in challenging applications, including underfloor heating installations, high-traffic areas, and moisture-prone areas.

How Do I Clean Grout?

Cement-based tile grout can be smudged over time, especially when used in the kitchen or bathroom. Luckily, it is easy to clean it with a homemade solution with bicarbonate of soda and water at a ratio of 2 to 1. Using a soft toothbrush apply this mixture onto your grout joints and leave for ten minutes before rinsing off.

Does Tile Grout Have To Be Sealed?

It is highly recommended to seal tile grout for several reasons. Sealing the grout helps protect it from moisture, dirt, and stains, prolong its lifespan, and maintain a clean surface. This is also helpful in reducing mildew growth in damp areas like kitchens or bathrooms.
