Building gypsum is renowned for its excellent properties and is widely used in construction materials. It is primarily used in dry-mixed mortar products such as masonry mortar, finishing plaster, gypsum-based decorative mortar, and gypsum-based joint fillers.
LANDERCOLL specializes in the production and development of cellulose ether solutions. In gypsum applications, our cellulose ether, including Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose(HPMC) and Hydroxyethyl Methyl Cellulose(HEMC), serves as a moisture-retaining, thickening, and lubricating agent. It also exhibits a certain retarding effect, which can address issues like hollowing and cracking during construction, as well as ensure the optimal initial strength of gypsum-based products.
Industrial gypsum typically consists of a mixture of CaSO4, CaSO4·1/2 H2O, and CaSO4·2 H2O, with the composition varying by country and region. Therefore, it is essential to conduct tests based on specific conditions to determine the appropriate type and dosage for use. Generally, gypsum-based mortars contain about 0.2% cellulose ether such as HPMC to significantly improve workability, prevent cracking, and result in smooth and even wall surfaces.
