LANDERCOLL stands as a prominent manufacturer in the cellulose ether industry. We excel in producing premium HPMC, HEMC, and HEC for diverse applications, including building materials, paints and coatings, pharmaceuticals, and detergents.
Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose, abbreviated as HPMC, is a non-ionic cellulose ether derived from natural cellulose through chemical modification. It is a white, odorless, and tasteless powder. This versatile substance can be used as a thickener, stabilizer, emulsifier, and film former.
LANDERCOLL® provides reliable rheology solutions for applications to a wide range of industries, including dry mix mortar, paints and coatings, pharmaceuticals, and food, as well as batteries, ceramics, textiles, and paint remover.
Chemical Family: Cellulose Ether
CAS NO.: 9004-65-3
The full form of HPMC is Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose. This systematic name describes its chemical structure, indicating the presence of hydroxypropyl and methyl groups attached to the cellulose backbone.
Compared to some synthetic alternatives, HPMC is fully vegetable-based and biodegradable, breaking down into harmless substances like water and carbon dioxide. It offers the perfect balance of safety, performance, and environmental responsibility.
LANDERCOLL is renowned for manufacturing exceptional Cellulose Ether including HPMC. Our diverse products range from economical solutions to high-performance variants, suitable for general conditions and challenging environments including moisture and hostile weather.

LANDERCOLL® K75 HPMC ensures low and even drying of the putty while improving adhesion and workability.
LANDERCOLL® K150 HPMC improves adhesion between layers, prevents water uptake, and reduces air entrainment.
Additives form a protective film around cement particles to enhance water resistance.
HPMC prevents premature drying due to its ability to improve water preservation.
LANDERCOLL® HPMC functions as a thickener and stabilizer to improve the texture of liquid detergents.
Surface-treated HPMC, also called instant soluble HPMC. It can be dispersed without clumping in neutral cold water, but will not increase the product’s viscosity immediately. After a certain period of soaking, the chemical structure of the surface-treated HPMC is damaged, allowing water to dissolve its particles.

Yes, HPMC has better solubility in organic solvents than in water. It can dissolve in anhydrous methanol and ethanol, as well as chlorinated hydrocarbons such as dichloromethane, and trichloroethane. It is also workable to dissolve HPMC in acetone, isopropanol, and diacetone alcohol.
HPMC stands for Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose. It is a semisynthetic, inert, viscoelastic polymer derived from cellulose. HPMC is produced by chemically modifying cellulose extracted from wood pulp or cotton, replacing some hydroxyl groups with methoxy and hydroxypropyl groups.
The most important characteristic of HPMC is its water retention ability in building materials. Maintaining sufficient moisture in dry-mix mortar over an extended period ensures workability, while water also plays a role in lubrication and mixing within the inorganic composition. This allows thin-layer mortars to be easily combed, and plaster mortars to be leveled repeatedly.
To evaluate HPMC quality, assess its appearance, solubility, viscosity, water retention, purity, thermal stability, moisture content, gel temperature, and performance in specific applications through various physical and chemical tests.
Replacing HPMC with white cement is not recommended. While white cement is a decorative material, HPMC serves as a functional additive, which can improve adhesion, workability
